Healthy Fats & Leaky Gut
Jun 23, 2019We all need fat in our diet. It is important for:
- transporting nutrients & fat soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, D, E, and K
- protecting the vital organs from trauma and temperature change
- provides padding and insulation to the body
- essential for the nervous system
- essential in manufacturing steroid and sex hormones
The inclusion of good fat in the diet helps to keep you feeling full. Not enough good fat can contribute to allergies, inflammation, arthritis, depression and learning disabilities. An excess of bad fats are linked to a variety of illnesses and diseases, namely cardiovascular disease and obesity. The walls of our cells are made of fats, and when we don't have healthy fats in our diet, the health of our cells suffers. This can allow things to leak in (and out) that aren't supposed to, causing inflammation in the body. In the stomach and intestinal tract, this can lead to 'leaky gut syndrome'.
